The reverse of the gold coin depicts an adult emu in motion, traversing the open landscapes of the Australian outback. In the background, a wooden barn and a windmill are shown, emphasizing the agricultural character of the Australian landscape. Along the rim of the reverse, the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN EMU’ is placed, along with information about the coin’s weight, purity, the year of issue 2026, and the Perth Mint ‘P’ mintmark. The coin design was created by Jennifer McKenna.

Since 2024, the obverse of the gold coin features the image of King Charles III, who ascended the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on 8 September 2022. The obverse design bears the inscription ‘CHARLES III’, along with information about the issuing country and the coin’s face value, as well as the initials of the talented designer Dan Thorne. The likeness of King Charles III was officially approved by His Majesty King Charles III. The obverse also includes the name of the issuing country, ‘Australia’, and the coin’s denomination of 100 AUD.
